Guardian of Light

(for my beloved guardian angels)

I have known you, angel,
In the twilight hours
When the world was hushed
On the cusp of darkness,
In those moments when I felt alone
As I walked upon the jagged stones
In the shadowlands so far from home.
I have felt your breath upon my cheek
Like a silent whisper of the wind,
And even when I could not hear you speak,
You were my ever-patient friend.

I have known you, angel,
In the dark of night
When all the world
Was plagued with blight
In those moments when I felt so lost
Shipwrecked, abandoned, tempest tossed,
Bridges burned and chasms crossed.
I have felt your hand upon my back
Like a silent wave upon the tide.
Lifting me up from a sea of lack,
You were my counsel and my guide.

I have known you, angel,
In my waking hours
When the world was poised
On the brink of daybreak
In those moments when I felt as One
With a Light far brighter than the Sun,
And I knew my true work had begun.
And now I feel your wings enfold me
Like a silent flutter of the flame
Of pure luminescent energy
Your Light and mine, one and the same.
